Overlay one PDF on another

Place PDF letterhead or an overlay over a document.

Drop your PDF files here

Or choose them from your device to get started.

50 MB total · Exactly 2 files · No uploads

Add your document first and the overlay PDF second.

Try a fictional example

Download the Letter source and its A4 version. Use the source as base and its A4 version as foreground. Expect two pages with the second PDF layered over the first, not four joined pages.

Fine-tune your result

Add your document first, overlay PDF second. A one-page overlay repeats; otherwise page counts must match.

Private processing, right here in your browser.

How to use Overlay PDF

Add the base first and foreground second

A one-page foreground repeats; otherwise page counts must match. Set opacity and check paper proportions.

Apply overlay

Keep the source, run the task and inspect the result before accepting it.

Inspect coverage of underlying text

Compare the saved copy with the practice result described above before using your own document.

Overlay one PDF on another without adding pages

Add the base PDF first and the foreground PDF second. A one-page foreground repeats on selected base pages; otherwise the files must have matching page counts.

A practical example

For a three-page report with a separate cover, use a one-page letterhead and select 2-3. The cover stays without the overlay and the output still has three pages.

What to check in the result

Opacity fades the whole foreground. White areas can cover underlying text; the tool does not turn them transparent. Use upright pages and matching proportions, then inspect the downloaded result.

Supported files and limits

Use valid, unencrypted PDF files, within 50 MB total input. Choose exactly two PDFs. Complex files may exceed device memory.

Questions & answers

How is overlaying different from merging PDFs?

Merging appends pages. An overlay places a foreground PDF on the same base pages, without adding its pages to the document.

Why does my letterhead cover the document text?

The overlay is a foreground layer. Opaque white areas can cover the base text. Opacity fades the whole overlay; it does not automatically remove its background.

Can I repeat one overlay on every base page?

Yes. A one-page overlay repeats across the selected base pages. Otherwise the two PDFs must have matching page counts.
